How important is the radio to ska?
Do folks like to hear ska on the radio?
Can we influence the local radio stations (or any stations) a little more? How?

I rarely listen to the radio anymore, so it doesn't really make a difference to me whether they play ska or not. It wouldn't convince me to start listening again, if they started playing ska again, either.
I listen to my iPod, and when I want to get an influx of new music or get bored with listening to my same stuff all the time, I listen to my many stations on Pandora.
Or I listen to mix CDs that people have made me.

Are there any ska shows on college stations round these parts?
That's always usually a good find. |

Not a college station, but you can go here:
Ska Jerk Radio http://www.live365.com/stations/skajerk?site=live365
Ska Ska Ska 24/7
Latest songs played: The Specials- Rude Boys Outta Jail The Clarendonians- Rude Boy Gone A Jail (purely coincidental!) Sound Dimension- Time Is Tight Freddie McGreggor- Gonna Take Over Chris Murray Combo- I Need Water Slim Smith- Will You Still Love Me The Gaylads- It's Hard To Confess Chris Murray Combo- Big Love The Pepper Pots- You Love Her
I'm always looking for some new music to add to the playlist so give me a buzz! I've just added some of Chris Murray's new tunes and some music from one my new favorite groups, The Pepper Pots. Anything from Jamaican ska to todays ska. Your suggestions are welcome!

Ditto on tha radio what peggy said...uh yeah...
XM/sirius you can find it sometimes, been awhile since I had my XM hooked up, but you could find a short ska-punk show on ocasionaly.
There have always seemed to be little shows like that on the college stations, but they're so hard to track down, and usually late at night.
KSJS 90.5 (SJSU's station) plays a good mix of different stuff, from Jazz, hip hop to death metal. I always check in to see whats happening.
KCSC? not sure on this one 91.5? or 89.5? Can't remember Anyways, UC Santa Cruz's station had a ska show on Saturday or Sunday, I remember we went down and played twice...
There were a couple highschoolers that contacted us once, they're school had a small radio station, and they played ska. Ha, wish I could remember, i'm a little hazy right now...

Yeah. Sirius will play the occasional Bob Marley, Skatalites or Maytals tune on the reggae channel. I've even heard Phyllis Dillon a couple times. Or they'll play Madness, The Beat or The Specials on the new wave channel.
That's about it.

XM will play ska on their ska & punk station, even traditional stuff like Skatalites sometimes.
I wonder what's going to happen to programming with satellite radio now, with the merger and all.

Hell yeah...that's some good info to have. I figure that radio is just another additional aspect of keeping ska alive. Live, internet, radio, cd SALES... the ska jig saw puzzle. I will check out those stations skajerk, thanks...

| Well with the merger you will get stern. ITS SO HILARIOUS!!! actually you will be able to get sirius plus xm without stern for a reduced rate. you should look into that. |

I don't really need stern, 'cause that man can't tell me anything about boobies that I don't already know from having my own, and I think that's all he talks about. |

| Stern is like a reality tv show commentary. He never made me laugh. I'm pretty sure listening takes points off your IQ. |

| a lot of people say that. however most of the people that point the finger are just as fucked up in there own right. the stern show is not for everyone this is true. however if you gave it a chance you would realize it was way more intelligent then once thought. its not all tits and ass. In fact I tune out when dumb broads are on. The true comedy comes from the social commentary.(during a broadcast listen to sal and richard. complete chaos!!!) |
