Cloverdale Dave posted several great episodes this past weekend on SONGS STUCK IN MY HEAD.
Apparently, Daoster and Gabe have been struck down by computer gremlins. Or they are just getting lazy. Nothing new from them in a while.

New episode by me
http://milesgehm.podOmatic.com/entry/2008-12-17T23_35_18-08_00
See previous episode for circumstances.
This starts off with The Peacocks, from CH. "no sex baby, I'd rather have breakfast" is a great lyric, and there is "It's ok, we've all seen better days!"
Johnny Thunder is up next. He was with the Dead Boys in NYC when the earth was young. ALL BY MYSELF. Jonny Manak and the Depressives remind me of Johnny Thunder a bit. They are from San Jose. Jonny skates.
Dead Boys! "I'm just a dead boy. All this and more, little girl. How about on the floor, little girl? I'll die for you if you want me too." Sucks that Stiv Bator got run over in NYC.
Next, we move across the Atlantic to London circa 1978 with the Adverts. LOOKING THROUGH GARY GILMORE'S EYES Song about someone getting eye transplants from an executed serial murder. Gary Gilmore was executed by firing squad in Utah in the mid 1970's
Six thousand miles west and 10 years later we have Bad Religion. In the night.
15 years and a thousand miles north--didn't know this was about geography, huh! The Briefs from Seattle. I'm Poor and I'm Wierd.
Bored Teenagers by The Adverts. The lyrics are spot on. with emotional rages bored out of our heads bored out of our minds
London 1977. It isn't the Sex Pistols. These guys were playing in the same scene though. THE VIBRATORS with automatic lover. I saw them once at the Blank Club in SJ in 2004-ish. They were great and drove away in a mini-van. She's the kind of thing I was warned about by my mother Run for cover, run for cover
I don't need anyone don't need no mom and dad don't even need you too sonic reducer ain't no loser
I don't type fast enough...
I watch them from my room they're just passing by I'm not just anyone I got my time machine My electronic dreams sonic reducer sonic reducer
Then I'll be 10 feet tall and you'll be nothing at all
That is the Dead Boys flailing away with SONIC REDUCER. Just tremendous from beginning to end.
Next are LeftOver Crack come to us from New Jersey some time in the past decade or so. AND WHEN THERE IS NO HOPE, I SMOKE THE CRACK AND SHOOT THE DOPE. It isn't my way out, but it is damn powerful. There is some killer bass in this song and I love the strangled vocal noises. Makes you want to pick up a brick and throw it.
Much lighter, but still great. Punk Rock Girls by THE QUEERS. It is really bubble gum punk, but I love it. Yummy yummy punk rock girls, I wish they all were punk rock girls. I saw the twice and both shows were great. The one at Bottom of the Hill in 2006 was epic. The Manges and The Methadones opened. They played a Screetching Weasels song, Cindy's on Methadone that I never thought I would hear live.
The Clash. He don't like his boring job now. Fill it up Jacko. Janie Jones was a famous London madam/prostitute.
More Queers. Kicked out of the Weebeloes! Daddy beat me with a hose I punched her in her snotty nose I guess that's the way it goes
That's all. I typed this as the podcast was playing so if it is wrong, or lousy, well... Blow me!

Cloverdale Dave has posted 2 fantastic skinhead reggae episodes recently. There is a total of 2.5 hours of great songs in there.
Do yourself a favor, and download it now. I made the skatepark play it over the PA system yesterday afternoon and I skated better than I ever have. The general public was totally perplexed.

WTF
Cloverdale Dave has dropped another bomb.
http://dlaurice.podOmatic.com/entry/2009-05-02T13_59_59-07_00
I'm normally put off by pops and static, but the music is just so good I don't notice. Just wonderful. Check it out!
The Genius of Eric "Monty" Morris
A Ska great often overlooked, even in my own collection, I figured it was time to throw a set of Mr. Morris tunes out into space, so here they are. Lot's of treats here that go well beyond the two or three that show up on almost every Ska compilation. It is a long one, but I think worth the listen-
1.Fast Mouth 2.By The Sea 3.Stitch In Time (All My Enemies) 4.My Forty-Five 5.Live As A Man 6.Lazy Woman 7. Pack Up Your Troubles 8.Many Long Years Ago 9.Supper In The Gutter 10.Troublesome People 11.Lena Belle 12.For Your Love 13.Penny Reel-O 14.I am the Greatest 15. Tommy Tucker 16.Get Your Feet Moving 17.Suddenly 18.Lonely Blue Boy 19.Humpty Dumpty 20.Seven Long Years 21.Oh My Dear – nice Roy Richards Harmonica 22.So You Shot Red 23.Into the Beautiful Garden 24.My Love 26.It Will Be Ages 27.G.I.Lady 28.Solomon A Gundie |
