Due to a booking commitment which involves the entire Knitting Factory, there will be no Bluebeat Lounge show next Tuesday (6/15). However, A VERY VERY SPECIAL SHOW is planned for Tuesday 6/22 - the Bluebeat Lounge "Summer's Here" Bash!!

Returning for the first time in over a year is Go Go 13, absolutely the zaniest ska band since Skankin' Pickle. Consummately stylish and infinitely wacky, Go Go 13 is in the house!

Playing the second slot (notice the usual term "middle slot" is not being used) is Chris Murray Combo, who continue to introduce new songs to the live repertoire as they work on their album. Feel free to email song requests. If we can play your request, we will.

Opening the night is a brand new band, The Shenanigans, featuring Bluebeat regulars Mitch, Jackie and more. The Shenanigans' set begins sharp at 9:25pm, so come early and don't miss their debut Bluebeat Lounge appearance.

Why such rigorous and non-typical attention to start time at Bluebeat Lounge? Because on 6/22, Bluebeat Lounge will be hosting some very special guests, TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA!!!

TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA is playing Wednesday June 23 (the next day) at HOB on Sunset along with Let's Go Bowling and Chris Murray Combo, so all I can say officially is there will be a "special autograph signing session" with the band at Bluebeat Lounge. If you bring your ticket for the HOB show 6/23, you get into Bluebeat Lounge 6/22 for free!!

Due to the projected swarms of ska fans predicted in attendance to watch TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA "sign autographs", Bluebeat Lounge will be held in the luxurious Front Bar at Knitting Factory instead of the cosy Alterknit Lounge.

DO NOT MISS THE NEXT BLUEBEAT LOUNGE!!!!! Tell your friends. Bring your co-workers. Invite your in-laws. This will be the most amazing Bluebeat Lounge ever. Take my word on this. That's all I can tell you. Let your imagination run wild and you won't be disappointed.

This show is $5 and is ALL AGES!!
Peace,
Chris

I still hate those damn water-stealing, no-football-team-having a-holes in LA though....

It's not like we have any GOOD football teams up here.

Monty Alexander is Jamaican and he was around during the whole reggae boom in the 60s and 70s, but nowadays he plays more straight ahead jazz. The yoshi's show hes playing a Nat King Cole tribute. Probably no roots stuff, although it would be interesting to see how they worked it in.

His new album with Ernest Ranglin is also jazz, but hes covering old ska and reggae classics with a new twist. It sounds pretty good. There was an NPR feature on it recently:

Thanks for the link. He also had some music on the recent "Tribute to Jackie mittoo" album from VP Records, a most excellent CD!! Good mix of ska and jazz, and a great tribute to the keyboard king!

Now to steer this thread back on topic, who plays keys for TSPO? Anyone??

I don't see TSPO playing up here at a $5 venue.
And you won't see it in LA either! Remember, it's an "autograph session." **wink-wink**

The bay area has great jazz (thanks to Yoshi's primarily). LA isn't short of great jazz venues too. I don't see TSPO playing up here at a $5 venue.

The Bay area isn't lame, plenty of good shows going on. Like tonight "Monty Alexander" at Yoshi's. Common, that should be a great show, pure jamaican roots piano!!

Since the San Francisco show is 21+, if you're under 21 the trip to LA looks even better than before. Even if you are of legal age, you should consider coming south.

With your HOB ticket you get into Bluebeat Lounge for free. You get two shows for less than the price of a SF ticket. Plus you get to see LGB and CMC at HOB as well as Go Go 13, CMC and The Shenanigans at Bluebeat.

Beyond that, every ska musician in SoCal will be at Bluebeat Lounge 6/22 (to get autographs). You'll be chillin' with folks from Hepcat, Aggrolites, See Spot, Irie Beats, Allentons, Full Spectrum, Israelites, Yeska - every band that's ever played around LA.

Seriously, people will be talking about this show for years and years. You know you want to be there. It's not that big a trip - do it.

Now he's definately doing this to torture us.

Well...looks like I MAY drive down there..
